Since the mid-2000s I have worked with people to help them grow. I was fortunate to have discovered personal development around that time and experienced significant change in my life that impacted both the professional and the personal.
Suddenly I was the person people could talk to. I was the person to whom people asked what they should do. Whilst it was nice to feel wanted and needed in that way, there was something bigger than that for me: the conversations weren’t about me – they were about the other person. It became clear to me that I found fulfilment in assisting others in understanding and applying themselves in their world in different ways. It was about lifting others. That was and continues to be my passion.
Just like many others, I experienced challenges in my life. That included times where my mind went to dark places. But my work in helping others brought to life one of my strongest values: authenticity. In training sessions, I often use my own life experiences as examples of the subject matter – I’ve been there. I’ve been there but gave myself permission to learn from the experiences instead of being defeated by them. Challenges exist everywhere in life. They are hard to deal with sometimes. For me, creating a space for clients to feel what is necessary to feel in the moment is of absolute importance. That is your entirety. That is your authenticity. In coaching and training sessions, I allow those experiences to come forward and be part of the story and solution instead of fighting against them.
In coaching sessions, I often ask people two simple questions: “Who are you being in that moment?” and “Who are you as a person?” Often the two stories are similar and I see a person light up. Equally often the stories do not align. In these cases the inner conflict is visible. It’s easy to see the person struggling with a rift between the identity they behave in and the identity they feel within themselves. It is incredibly common to find people not being “who they wanted to be in that moment”. Identity is important. For an individual it guides their day to day experience of their personal and professional lives. For teams and organisations, it can be directly translated into strategic behaviours that bring clearly defined success to any initiative. If identity can be clearly defined, people, teams and organisations can confidently step forward into their world and grow.
These ideas define who I am. These ideas define how I work. I work with a focus on the other person, aiding them to build their own authenticity into their days and bring their identity to life in all they do. I help to create a whole person, a complete team, a united organisation. It is the source and inspiration of how I describe what my business is about. I help you “Be more than you were yesterday”.
